Wearable heads-up displays, dubbed "Apple Glass," are likely to be the fruit of Apple's augmented reality efforts. Based on early leaks, this is what the peripheral will look like and what we can anticipate from it.

Wearable technology has long been a source of rumors about Apple's next big breakthrough, but many of these claims have mixed up augmented reality with virtual reality. "Apple Glass," the next generation of augmented reality glasses, is expected to be released in 2022, rather than a "Apple VR" headset.

A pair of goggles or glasses that users may wear to see graphics superimposed on real-world objects has been suggested by patents, leaks, and speculation. Transparent lenses would enable the user to experience the environment through their own eyes rather than via a virtual reality headset's display.

In order to make "Apple Glass" seem like a normal pair of spectacles, it would adopt a fashion-forward design. People who aren't computer nerds will likely like the design aesthetics taken from the Apple Watch.

Based on what we know about the "Apple Glass" thus far, AppleInsider created a series of renderings. Today, there is enough technology to make basic augmented reality glasses possible, but not at the level of Apple's product.

A tiny projector or transparent pixels on the display might be used to show the display. For example, Apple Maps directions and incoming iMessages, for example, may theoretically be seen without the user losing sight of the scene in front of them.

Google Glass was the company's first venture into wearing augmented reality. Several factors contributed to its demise, including the overly technical design, the front-facing camera, and the limited battery life. Since then, nothing has been revealed about the company's repositioning of the headset for corporate customers.

With no cameras planned, Apple's wearable is believed to have a very thin design enclosed in plastic. Rather, LiDAR sensors would be employed to monitor both the surroundings and a user's hands and fingers.

Since numerous reports muddled Apple's AR and VR projects, it's been impossible to determine when "Apple Glass" would be available. Even while Apple's "Apple VR" headset is projected to be released in 2022, Apple's AR glasses aren't likely to be released until 2025 or later.

Several facts concerning the "Apple Glass" were leaked by Jon Prosser in a June 2020 leak. According to what he characterized as an "inside Apple source," he believes the gadget will have a name, a retail price of $499, and a few features.

Images of what seemed to be safety goggles with cameras attached were posted by Prosser, indicating it was an early prototype. Starboard, their alleged user interface, is believed to be identical to the iOS Springboard on Apple's devices.

In order to save battery life, the first model is intended to delegate processing and app functions to the iPhone. This approach was also employed by Apple in the first Apple Watch, which was released in 2014.

Keep an eye on AppleInsider for more renderings of upcoming Apple goods.
