Apple launched a website detailing the $30M bag-and-technology search lawsuit settlement
Apple has developed a webpage to explain the $30 million bag-and-technology search settlement
Apple has released information on the $30 million that will be distributed to workers who were exposed to regular off-the-clock searches prior to leaving work on a new website.
Apple agreed to pay up to $29.9 million in November to resolve claims brought by former workers who were subjected to random searches of their luggage and gadgets before leaving the office for the day.
The Apple Bag Check Class Action Settlement website has now been made available by Apple. Documentation made accessible to California workers who had their bags searched between July 25, 2009 and August 10, 2015 may be seen on this website.
Class action lawsuits were filed in 2013 by workers who claimed they should be compensated for time spent going through security checks on their luggage and electronic equipment.
Both the Ninth Circuit and the California Supreme Court heard the matter. In both cases, the court found that Apple should be financially responsible for the time spent conducting the mandated searches.
In California, nearly 12,000 current and former Apple Store employees are eligible for up to $1,200 in compensation.
