According to a report, an Apple Silicon version of the Mac Pro is expected to be released in 2022, with an updated Mac Mini also expected to be released at the same time.
As part of a two-year transition plan, Apple is pushing hard for the release of Apple Silicon hardware to replace Intel-based Macs. Apple is expected to offer a high-end Mac for business users in 2022, which would mark the end of the shift.
In Mark Gurman's "Power On" newsletter for Bloomberg published on Sunday, it was predicted that an Apple Silicon Mac Pro would be released in the near future. In Gurman's estimation, the new Mac Pro will be a smaller version of the current Mac Pro, but it will also have a significant performance boost thanks to the use of Apple's own chips.
"The Mac Pro" will have a CPU with up to 40 cores and a 128-core GPU, according to Gurman. For a while, Bloomberg claimed that the Apple Silicon Mac Pro would run on 20-core or 40-core CPUs and also have 64-core and 128-core GPUs.
According to a report, by August 2021, Gurman predicted, Apple would "barely hit its two-year timeline" for the switch to Apple silicon.
According to early leaks, the updated Mac Pro will be smaller than a G4 Cube and feature a compute unit on the bottom and a heat sink on the top. However, other than its size, there have been few other claims about its design.
Gurman also expects an updated Mac mini to be released in tandem with the new Mac Pro. In the past, there have been rumors of radical changes to the model's design, including a thinner frame and a "plexiglass-like" top panel, as well as new color options.
In terms of connectivity, we expect to see USB-C, USB-A, and Gigabit Ethernet, as well as HDMI and a circular magnetic power connector. As for the M1, there is speculation that it will be replaced by an M1 variant like the M1 Pro or M1 Max or by a new generation known as the "M2."
